Armie Hammer has recently addressed the situation after it was confirmed that he will not be facing sexual assault charges. The investigation into an alleged assault that occurred in 2017 has concluded, with the police determining that no crime was committed.
The 36-year-old actor was initially identified as a suspect in the case in 2021. However, Tiffiny Blacknell, the director of the Bureau of Communications at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, announced on Wednesday (May 31, 2023) that sexual assault charges will not be pursued against Hammer.
Following the news, the ‘Call Me By Your Name’ actor has broken his silence and expressed his gratitude for the thorough investigation carried out by the District Attorney’s Office. In a social media statement, Hammer stated that he has stood by the belief that no crime was committed, and he thanked all those who supported him throughout the ordeal.
Hammer wrote, “I am very grateful to the District Attorney for conducting a thorough investigation and coming to the conclusion that I have stood by this entire time, that no crime was committed. I look forward to beginning what will be a long, difficult process of putting my life back together now that my name is cleared.”
Accompanying the statement, Hammer posted on Instagram with the caption, “I would like to say a very special thank you to all of the people who have helped me get through this time. Onwards and upwards.”
Tiffiny Blacknell explained that the case was dropped due to the complexity of the relationship and the inability to prove a non-consensual, forcible sexual encounter beyond a reasonable doubt. She highlighted the difficulty in proving sexual assault cases and acknowledged that their office assigns experienced prosecutors to handle such cases. Even though the case could not proceed, they assured that victim support services would be available to those in need.
Hammer has consistently denied the allegations made against him, maintaining his innocence throughout the investigation. The actor now looks ahead to rebuilding his life, acknowledging that it will be a long and challenging process.
On the other hand, Hammer’s accuser, a woman identified as Effie, has expressed disappointment with the outcome of the investigation.
