Avatar 3 First Look Shared by Producer in Response to Release Date Delay

Producer Jon Landau has given fans a sneak peek at Avatar 3, sharing a behind-the-scenes image and addressing the film’s release date delay. The picture shows sad-looking Na’vi characters, reflecting the disappointment fans feel about the schedule change.

Landau acknowledged the extensive work involved in creating each Avatar film and the team’s commitment to delivering the quality expected by audiences. He expressed excitement about bringing viewers back to the world of Pandora in December 2025.

The delay of Avatar 3 is part of a larger shift in release dates for Disney’s major projects. Originally slated for December 2024, the film will now premiere on December 19th, 2025. Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 have also experienced postponements, moving to December 21st, 2029, and December 19th, 2031, respectively.

While director James Cameron has suggested that Avatar 3 is nearly complete, actress Zoe Saldaña has mentioned some remaining filming to be done during the summer. She stated that approximately 70% of the film is finished but assured fans that there is still ample time for completion.

Avatar 3 promises to expand the franchise’s scope, introducing new tribes of Na’vi. One of these tribes, known as the Ash People, will serve as the main antagonists, replacing the humans. Oona Chaplin, known for her roles in Game of Thrones and Taboo, will portray the leader of the fire tribe. Additionally, a wind-based tribe described as desert-dwelling traders will be featured, although their loyalties are yet unknown.

James Cameron has revealed that Avatar 3 will feature a change in narrator, with Sam Worthington’s Jake stepping aside for his son, portrayed by Britain Dalton. Cameron expressed his intention to assess audience feedback and make minor adjustments to highlight aspects that resonated the most. He hinted at further development of the character Lo’ak, who emerges as a fan favorite and plays a significant role in the film.
