Cillian Murphy believes losing ‘Batman’ role was a good thing

Cillian Murphy, the acclaimed actor known for his roles in Peaky Blinders, Inception, and the recent hit Oppenheimer, revealed in a recent interview that he was once in the running for the iconic role of Batman in the 2005 movie Batman Begins. However, the role eventually went to his co-star, Christian Bale. Murphy shared his thoughts on losing out on the coveted role, stating that it was “for the best” and praising Bale’s performance as a stunning interpretation of the Dark Knight.

In an interview with GQ, Murphy reflected on the audition process for Batman Begins. He mentioned that while he was considered for the role, he never saw himself as the right physical fit for Batman. He had always envisioned Christian Bale as the perfect choice for the character. Despite missing out on the lead role, Murphy was offered another significant part in the movie.

Director Christopher Nolan, who has worked with Murphy in several films, revealed in a joint interview with Entertainment Weekly that he had a strong belief in Murphy’s talent and wanted to ensure that the studio executives recognized his potential. To do this, Nolan encouraged Murphy to film a screen test to impress the executives and secure a role in the movie.
