In an interview with ComicBook.com, Soni reassured fans that Deadpool 3 will be in line with the previous two films in terms of its edgy content. He mentioned that he has already started working on the project and described it as “hard R,” indicating that it will feature the same level of adult-oriented humor and action.
Soni did note one difference in his experience with Deadpool 3 compared to the previous films. He revealed that he hasn’t received the script for the new movie, suggesting that Marvel Studios’ approach to secrecy is stricter compared to the previous Fox/Marvel collaborations. Soni admitted that he has only seen glimpses of what his character will be involved in.
When news broke that Deadpool would be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, some fans expressed concerns that the franchise’s signature R-rated style would be toned down to cater to a younger audience. However, the cast and crew of Deadpool 3 have consistently emphasized that the film will stay true to its roots and deliver the same irreverent and mature content that fans love. This will make Deadpool 3 the first R-rated entry in the MCU.
The upcoming film will see Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, the wise-cracking and irreverent anti-hero. Reynolds will be joined by other familiar faces from the X-Men franchise, including Hugh Jackman, who will be returning as Wolverine.
Additionally, many actors from the previous Deadpool movies are set to make a comeback in the third installment. This includes Karan Soni as Dopinder, the quirky and lovable taxi driver. Morena Baccarin will return as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, and Rob Delaney as Peter. The film will also introduce new characters played by Matthew Macfadyen and Emma Corrin, with Corrin rumored to portray a villain. There are even reports that Owen Wilson will reprise his role as Mobius M. Mobius from the Disney+ series Loki, although this has yet to be officially confirmed.
Directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on Free Guy and The Adam Project, Deadpool 3 is being written by the talented team of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who penned the first two Deadpool movies. They are joined by comic book writer Zeb Wells, known for his work on Spider-Man comics.
Fans can expect Deadpool 3 to hit theaters on May 3, 2024, with the promise of delivering the same irreverent humor, action-packed scenes, and R-rated sensibilities that have made the franchise so popular among audiences.
