Indian actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh has been cast as the legendary Punjab singer Amar Singh Chamkila in an upcoming biopic titled “Amar Singh Chamkila.” The film, backed by Netflix, aims to tell the untold true story of Punjab’s original rockstar. A teaser trailer for the film was released by Netflix, showcasing the collaboration between director Imtiaz Ali and renowned musician AR Rahman.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, who previously worked with AR Rahman on successful Bollywood films like “Rockstar” and “Highway,” “Amar Singh Chamkila” is set to feature Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role. Dosanjh, who gained international recognition after becoming the first Punjabi artist to perform at Coachella in April, will also contribute his own singing to the film. Parineeti Chopra has been cast as the female lead and will showcase her musical talent as well.

Born in 1960, Amar Singh Chamkila achieved immense popularity but tragically met a premature end. In 1988, at the peak of his fame, he was assassinated at the age of 27, along with his wife and two band members. The murders remain unsolved to this day, adding an air of mystery to his legacy.
