EST Studios secures worldwide distribution rights for Korean horror film ‘Chabak’, starring Danny Ahn from G.O.D.

EST Studios, an international finance, production, and sales company, has acquired worldwide sales rights (excluding South Korea) for the Korean horror thriller film “Chabak – Night Of Murder And Romance.” The film is directed by William Inhyuk Hyoung and produced by Tiger Yeongseop Kim. It features Danny Ahn, a member of the K-Pop group G.O.D., Kyoung-In Hong, and Min-Chae Kim.

“Chabak – Night Of Murder And Romance” is set to be released in South Korea and Southeast Asia in late August. The story follows a couple on a romantic car-camping trip that turns into a nightmare when they are pursued by a masked psychopath in the mountains, forcing them to confront a painful truth.

Tiger Yeongseop Kim, the former head of Korean broadcaster SBS’s series and content hub departments, is now the CEO of Tiger Studio, the production company behind “Chabak.” Kim has an impressive track record, having directed popular series like “Guardian Angel” and created hit K-dramas such as “The Gang Doctor,” “Innocent Defenders,” “Doctors,” “Dr. Romantic,” and “Roots Of The Throne.” Hyoung, the director of the film, has previously worked on projects like “Anymore” and “Pipe Dream Reality.”

The global rights deal for “Chabak” was brokered by Tenten Wei and Sophie Shi of EST Studios. The film will be presented to buyers at the upcoming Marché du Film in Cannes.

Chairman and co-CEO of EST Studios, Jaseson Ma, expressed excitement about partnering with Tiger Studio and working with William and Tiger. He also acknowledged the global impact of Korean content and expressed a desire to collaborate with other talented Korean filmmakers and studios to bring their works to audiences worldwide.

In addition to “Chabak,” EST Studios has recently acquired the 2023 Canneseries title “Streams Flow From A River,” produced by Canada’s Fae Pictures. The company is also involved in the production of “K-Pops!,” directed by Grammy winner Anderson .Paak, and the documentary “Hidden Letters,” which had its world premiere at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival.
