In the Secret Invasion episode 6 finale, Marvel fans experienced a rollercoaster of emotions. The intense battle between extremist rebel Skrull Gravik, played by Kingsley Ben-Adir, and the superpowered G’iah, portrayed by Emilia Clarke, captivated viewers. G’iah, now possessing Captain Marvel’s abilities, emerged victorious, taking down Gravik. Additionally, a heartwarming moment between Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, and his wife Varra, portrayed by Charlayne Woodard, brought a sense of closure to their relationship.
However, amid the triumphs and reunions, one particular scene involving Colonel James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes, portrayed by Don Cheadle, left fans in tears and speculation. As G’iah liberates humans from the Skrull compound, Rhodey is seen awakening, wearing a hospital gown reminiscent of the one he wore in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War. In that movie, Rhodey was accidentally shot down by Vision and left paralyzed from the waist down, necessitating the MRI scan that explains the gown.

This seemingly innocent detail has led fans to a heartbreaking realization. If the Skrulls have been impersonating Rhodey since Civil War, then the real Rhodey might have been imprisoned by them for years, unaware of significant events that unfolded during his absence. Chief among these events is the death of his close friend Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., in Avengers: Endgame.
The thought that Rhodey may not know about Tony’s ultimate sacrifice has devastated fans, igniting a flood of emotions on social media. Many took to Twitter to express their sorrow and disbelief, with one fan tweeting, “Rhodey has been a Skrull since CW [Civil War]… he doesn’t know Tony is d word… I’m sick actually.”
