Halle Bailey’s mesmerizing live performance of “Part of Your World” on American Idol’s Disney Night left the audience spellbound. Clad in a shimmering blue gown against the backdrop of the iconic Magic Kingdom castle, Bailey beautifully portrayed Ariel’s yearning to explore the human world and the enchanting underwater realm of The Little Mermaid.
Her rendition of the song serves as the lead single for the highly anticipated live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. In the lyrics, Ariel expresses her deep desire to escape the confines of her underwater life and experience the freedom of being human. She ponders, “What would I give if I could live out of these waters? What would I pay to spend a day warm on the sand?”
The soundtrack for the upcoming remake will feature new recordings of the timeless songs originally composed by Disney music legends Alan Menken and Howard Ashman for the beloved 1989 animated film. Menken, along with the talented Lin-Manuel Miranda, has also crafted four brand new songs for the movie, with three of them making their appearance in the film and the fourth being an exclusive bonus on the DVD release.
Directed by the visionary Rob Marshall, The Little Mermaid is set to make its splash in theaters on May 26. Bailey shines in the lead role of Ariel, bringing her own unique charm to the beloved character. The star-studded cast includes Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as the wicked Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as the lovable crab Sebastian, Awkwafina as the comical seagull Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Ariel’s faithful friend Flounder, and Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, a new character introduced as Eric’s mother in the film.
Fans eagerly await the release of The Little Mermaid, as the enchanting story comes to life once again with a talented cast and a captivating blend of beloved classics and new musical creations. With Halle Bailey’s incredible performance on American Idol, anticipation for the film reaches new heights, promising a delightful and magical cinematic experience for audiences of all ages.
