Joe Trohman is making a comeback to Fall Out Boy. The 38-year-old guitarist took a break from the popular band in January to focus on his mental health. However, he recently expressed his gratitude to fans for their support during his time away and officially announced his return to the group.
In an Instagram post, Joe shared a photo of himself on stage and wrote, “Hey everyone, I’m officially back! I want to thank everyone for the love and support while I took some time away to focus on my brain and get healthy for my family, my friends, and myself.”
Joe also took the opportunity to acknowledge Ben Young, who filled in for him during his absence, performing live alongside band members Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, and Andy Hurley.
He said, “I also want to thank Ben Young for stepping up and filling in on the shows I missed – He is a true gentleman and a scholar. I’m stoked to be back in action and I can’t wait to see everyone on tour this summer!”
Previously, Joe had openly discussed the decline of his mental health over the past few years, leading him to believe that stepping away from the spotlight was necessary.
In a statement shared on the band’s Instagram page, Joe quoted Neil Young’s famous words about burning out versus fading away and admitted that burning out was a dreadful experience. He mentioned that his mental health had significantly deteriorated, prompting him to take a break from work and Fall Out Boy.
Joe reassured fans that although he needed time to recover, he fully intended to return to the band in the future. He expressed his pride in the new album they were releasing and acknowledged that making this decision was difficult but necessary for his well-being.
Joe concluded by thanking everyone, including his bandmates and family, for their understanding and support during this challenging time.
Fans and fellow musicians rallied behind Joe, offering their support and encouragement for his recovery journey. They expressed excitement about his return and eagerly anticipated Fall Out Boy’s upcoming tour.
Joe Trohman’s decision to prioritize his mental health serves as a reminder of the importance of self-care and seeking help when needed. His openness about his struggles encourages others to prioritize their well-being as well.
As Fall Out Boy fans eagerly await the band’s future projects and performances, they can take comfort in knowing that Joe Trohman has made a triumphant return, ready to rock the stage once again.
