Joohoney, the rapper from MONSTA X, will start his mandatory military service later this month.
In a handwritten letter to fans on the band’s fan cafe website, the 28-year-old K-pop star announced that he will begin his military enlistment on July 24.
Joohoney shared the news close to the enlistment date because he wanted to spend more time with MONSTA X’s fans, known as Monbebes, and the other members before his departure. He assured fans that this is not a permanent goodbye and asked them to remember him and think about him daily.
According to South Korean law, all able-bodied men are required to serve in the military for a period of 18 to 21 months.
Joohoney described this period as a temporary break and promised to return with more good things for his fans. He sees it as a pause in their journey together, leading to what lies ahead.
Following Shownu and Minhyuk, Joohoney will be the third member of MONSTA X to enlist in the military.
This news follows Joohoney’s solo debut in April with the mini album ‘Lights’ and the single ‘Freedom’.
In an interview with Billboard, Joohoney expressed his desire for idols and artists to be more open about their struggles and confidently express themselves through their music. He emphasized the importance of artists being able to freely express themselves without feeling restricted by company rules or expectations.
Joohoney’s upcoming military service marks a temporary farewell, but he intends to continue his artistic journey and return to his fans with more exciting projects in the future.
