Kelly Clarkson had a strong feeling in her heart that her marriage was doomed. The 41-year-old star was married to Brandon Blackstock from 2013 to 2021, and despite their attempts at counseling and working on their relationship, Kelly couldn’t shake the belief that it wouldn’t work out.
During an interview on Apple Music’s ‘The Zane Lowe Show,’ Kelly revealed, “I literally said to my therapist, and it wasn’t even, honestly, we weren’t even divorced. We weren’t separated then. When we initially sought therapy, it was during our discussions about our marriage. We were attempting to find solutions and make it work. I had a strong desire to make it happen, but deep down, I knew it wasn’t going to succeed.
Kelly also shared that she didn’t appreciate people dismissing her concerns and telling her not to worry about her divorce. She explained, “You’re like, ‘Shut up.’ At the time, you’re just like, ‘I don’t want to hear that. I don’t want to hear all the clichéd advice you’re about to give me. It’s just frustrating, and I’m not ready to go through it.
In addition to discussing her marriage, Kelly recently opened up about her love for attending therapy sessions. She revealed to ‘ET Canada’ that she has been regularly going to therapy, even during her marriage. Although writing and having a supportive group of friends have been therapeutic for her, she found therapy to be a significant turning point in her life.
Kelly expressed her appreciation for the tools and guidance that therapy provides. She emphasized the importance of having someone outside her circle who can offer unbiased perspectives and help her navigate challenging situations. She described therapy as a helpful resource for gaining clarity and finding support.
While Kelly went through a challenging time with her marriage, she is using therapy as a tool for healing and personal growth. By acknowledging her intuition and seeking professional help, she is taking positive steps towards finding happiness and moving forward in her life.
