Kelly Clarkson reveals feeling isolated after divorce while living in Los Angeles

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson recently opened up about feeling lonely in Los Angeles after her divorce from Brandon Blackstock in 2020. The 41-year-old singer, known for hits like “Breakaway,” revealed that she never wanted to live in LA in the first place as her family and friends reside on the East Coast. As a result, she is now preparing to move her popular talk show to New York City.

During an appearance on the Today show, Clarkson explained that the COVID-19 pandemic brought certain aspects of her life into focus, including her relationship. She mentioned that many relationships did not survive the challenges posed by the pandemic, and her own divorce made her realize that she never truly enjoyed living in Los Angeles. Being separated from her family on the East Coast made her feel lonely.

Clarkson clarified that her loneliness did not stem from a desire for a romantic partner but rather from missing the support and connection of her family. She expressed the need to be honest with herself about feeling isolated and yearning for familial relationships. Navigating her divorce was extremely difficult for Clarkson, as she described it as the hardest thing she had to deal with in her life. Irreconcilable differences were cited as the reason for the divorce, which was finalized in June 2020.

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock share two children together, River Rose and Remington Alexander. During her interview, Clarkson mentioned that the pedestrian-friendly streets of New York City, along with Blackstock’s dislike for the city, played a significant role in her decision to move. She expressed her enthusiasm for the vibrant atmosphere of the city and called one of the network executives to discuss the possibility of relocating her talk show.
