One Tree Hill actress opens up about being in a cult for a decade

Bethany Joy Lenz, known for her role in the TV show One Tree Hill, has revealed that she was part of a cult for 10 years.

Lenz, now 42 years old, played the character Haley James Scott on the popular drama series from 2003 to 2012. She has also appeared in other shows such as Dexter, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and Grey’s Anatomy.

During a recent episode of the Drama Queens podcast, which she co-hosts with her former One Tree Hill co-stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton Morgan, Lenz opened up about her past experience.

She mentioned that she was in a cult for a decade but did not provide many details. Lenz expressed her intention to potentially write a book about her experience and the subsequent recovery that took place over the following 10 years.

Lenz acknowledged feeling pressure to share her story accurately and in the right way, but explained that legal considerations and other factors make the timing of the book more complex.

While this is the first time Lenz has spoken publicly about her involvement in a cult, she previously called out a church in Los Angeles on social media in 2021. She expressed concern about the level of control and abuse within the church, highlighting that many people are being misled.

In 2016, former Smallville star Allison Mack, who was involved in the NXIVM cult, attempted to recruit Lenz. However, Lenz declined the invitation, citing her previous experience with a cult.
