Former “Saturday Night Live” star Pete Davidson recently found a way to avoid jail time for a crash that occurred earlier this year in Beverly Hills, California. The 29-year-old comedian and actor reached a deal with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, settling a misdemeanor charge against him.
According to CBS News, Pete Davidson will enter an 18-month diversion program as part of the agreement. This program will require him to complete 50 hours of community service and 12 hours of traffic school. The good news for Davidson is that he can fulfill the community service requirement in New York, his home state. It is likely that he will carry out the hours through the New York City Fire Department, given his strong connection to the FDNY. Davidson’s father was an FDNY firefighter who tragically lost his life while responding to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The incident in question took place in the late-night hours of March 4 when Davidson was driving a vehicle that crashed into a home in Beverly Hills. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported from the accident. Davidson’s girlfriend, Chase Sui Wonders, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Beverly Hills police revealed that in addition to hitting the house, Davidson had also struck a fire hydrant during the incident.
Davidson was charged with a single misdemeanor count of reckless driving in June. This charge could have carried a maximum sentence of up to 90 days in jail. However, through the diversion program, he can avoid spending time behind bars as long as he fulfills the requirements set forth by the court.

The diversion program is a way for first-time offenders to address their actions without facing the full legal consequences. By completing the community service and traffic school, Davidson will have an opportunity to learn from his mistake and contribute positively to the community. This approach focuses on rehabilitation and education rather than punishment.
As an accomplished comedian and actor, Davidson’s career has seen both highs and lows. He gained fame through his appearances on “Saturday Night Live” and has been open about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse. Despite the challenges, Davidson has managed to maintain a successful career in the entertainment industry.
