Rita Moreno, a legendary actress known for her contributions to showbiz over seven decades, made an appearance on the Today show with Hoda Kotb to discuss her role in the latest film, Fast X, and shed some light on how she landed the coveted part.
In a moment of cheekiness, the 91-year-old actress deadpanned to Kotb, “It pays to sleep with the right people.” The remark caused Kotb to burst into laughter before regaining her composure. Kotb then mentioned hearing that Moreno’s grandson played a pivotal role in helping her secure the role in the blockbuster franchise.

“So he thinks,” Moreno retorted, playfully dismissing her grandson’s claim. She proceeded to share the story of her grandson, Justin Fisher, who met Vin Diesel at the premiere of West Side Story in 2021. Fisher took the opportunity to pitch his grandmother for a role in Fast X.
According to Moreno, Diesel had already made up his mind about wanting her in the film. Nonetheless, Fisher is convinced that he played a crucial part in getting Moreno the gig and boasts about it to everyone he meets.

While discussing her involvement in Fast X, Moreno highlighted the remarkable cast assembled for the star-studded summer blockbuster. She revealed that she has become text buddies with Chris Bridges, also known as rapper Ludacris, who portrays the tech expert Tej Parker in the film. Moreno found Bridges intriguing and described him as a smart and articulate individual.
Fast X boasts an astonishing lineup of talent, including Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Tyrese Gibson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Charlize Theron, Cardi B, Brie Larson, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jason Momoa. Vin Diesel took to Instagram in May 2022 to share the news of Moreno’s casting. In a selfie-style video, Diesel expressed his lifelong dream of working with Moreno and expressed his gratitude for having her portray his character’s grandmother in the film. He regarded her presence as a true blessing.
