Robert De Niro is set to close the Tribeca Festival with a special screening of his 1993 crime drama “A Bronx Tale.” The festival, which De Niro co-founded with Jane Rosenthal in 2002, will feature a lineup of films and documentaries spanning various genres.

The opening night of the festival will kick off with the premiere of “Kiss the Future,” a documentary about U2’s efforts to help the war-torn capital of Sarajevo. The 12-day event will also include a simulcast of the Broadway musical “Waitress” in Times Square, as well as music documentaries featuring artists such as Cyndi Lauper, French Montana, and Santana, who will also perform at the festival.

Over 90 feature films will have their world premieres at the festival, with many of them featuring De Niro’s friends and former co-stars. Pam Grier, known for her role in “Jackie Brown,” will appear in the thriller “Cinnamon,” paying tribute to ’70s blaxploitation movies. Michael Shannon will make his directorial debut with “Eric LaRue,” a film about a school shooter’s mother, played by Judy Greer.

One notable highlight of the festival will be Tina Fey’s appearance in the dark comedy “Maggie Moore(s).” Fey, who previously worked with De Niro on “Saturday Night Live,” has credited him for suggesting her portrayal of Sarah Palin on the show. De Niro confirms that he indeed recommended Fey for the role, and praises her comedic talent.

Looking back at his own directorial work, De Niro reflects on “A Bronx Tale,” which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The film, based on Chazz Palminteri’s autobiographical one-man show, explores the story of a boy torn between his father and a local mobster. The movie was a critical success and helped launch Palminteri’s career as an actor. De Niro also co-directed a musical adaptation of “A Bronx Tale” in 2016, which enjoyed a successful run on Broadway.

In addition to his past projects, De Niro is excited about his upcoming film “Killers of the Flower Moon,” directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie tells a twisted love story set in 1920s Oklahoma and has already received positive reviews at the Cannes Film Festival. De Niro expresses his desire to continue collaborating with Scorsese and DiCaprio and hints at a potential project they have been discussing for years.
