Sheryl Lee Ralph’s son, Etienne Maurice, recently shared his reflections on two of the most terrifying moments of his life in a recent AARP: The Magazine cover story. In the August/September issue of the publication, Etienne, who stars in the TV series “Abbott Elementary,” recounted two harrowing incidents that occurred in 2013. The first was a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) incident during his college days, where he suffered a concussion that had a significant impact on his brain. The second incident involved a mugging, during which he was shot three times. His mother, Sheryl Lee Ralph, recalled how Etienne woke up in the hospital with two bullets in his leg and a graze wound on his forehead from another bullet.
Despite the traumatic nature of both accidents, the now 31-year-old Etienne took to Twitter to share that these experiences paved the way for the meaningful work he is currently engaged in as the CEO and founder of WalkGood Productions. This independent film and TV production company aims to bring people from diverse backgrounds together to create original stories.
In a video shared on Twitter, Etienne reassured his followers that he is okay and that the incidents happened nearly a decade ago. He emphasized that the two events were separate and did not occur recently. However, he acknowledged that these experiences were pivotal in leading him to his current role with WalkGood.
Etienne also proudly showcased WalkGood’s new creative space in Los Angeles, highlighting its focus on community healing and building. The company is dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment that brings together individuals from all walks of life to tell unique and impactful stories.
Sheryl Lee Ralph, a talented actress and mother, has been a source of inspiration and support for Etienne and her daughter Ivy-Victoria (also known as “Coco”). She shares both children with her ex-husband Eric Maurice, whom she divorced in 2001.
In the AARP cover story, Sheryl Lee Ralph expressed her deep love and pride for her children, referring to them as her greatest gift. She always knew that she was destined to be a mother, and when she met her first husband, she saw her future children as clearly as they are today. Their love led to the birth of their son, Etienne, and their daughter, Coco.
While Sheryl Lee Ralph cherishes her role as a mother, she did admit that if she had one regret in life, it would be not having more children. Nevertheless, she finds immense joy and fulfillment in raising her two beautiful children, who have been supportive and proud of their mother’s achievements.
For instance, when Sheryl Lee Ralph won her first Emmy Award for best supporting actress in a comedy series in 2022, Etienne shared a heartwarming video on Instagram, capturing the moment of sheer excitement and celebration with his sister, Ivy-Victoria. Their love and pride for their mother continue to shine brightly in their hearts.
