SZA and Beyoncé Dominate BET Awards with Multiple Wins, Including Shared Album of the Year

SZA and Beyoncé were the stars of the night at the 2023 BET Awards, each taking home three awards, including a tie for Album of the Year. The ceremony, which recognizes outstanding achievements in music, TV, film, and sports, was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. This year’s event marked the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop, with Busta Rhymes receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Patti LaBelle graced the stage to pay tribute to Tina Turner, but stumbled on the lyrics of “Simply the Best.” Meanwhile, SZA secured wins for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year for her song “Kill Bill,” while Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul” snagged the Viewers Choice Award and BET Her Award.

There was another tie in the Male R&B/Pop Artist category, with Chris Brown and Usher sharing the honor. In the film category, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, from Disney/Marvel, took home the Best Movie award, with Angela Bassett winning Best Actress and Damson Idris receiving Best Actor.

Drake also had a successful night, securing two wins and tying with GloRilla for the most nominations with seven each. The event featured memorable moments such as Offset and Quavo reuniting to pay tribute to the late Migos member Takeoff, and Muni Long acknowledging the significance of writers amidst the WGA strike.
