Taylor Swift is determined to surpass Ed Sheeran’s record for the highest-attended concert in Australia.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has announced her highly anticipated tour in Australia, scheduled for February 2024. The news of her upcoming tour has created a buzz among Australians, with one detail in particular catching everyone’s attention—the two shows she will be performing at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

On February 16 and 17, 2024, Swift will kick off her tour at the MCG, followed by additional dates at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on February 23, 24, and 25. The MCG is renowned for being the largest stadium in Australia and holds a rich history, having hosted the 1956 Olympic Games. It is primarily used for sporting events, such as Australian Rules Football and cricket, but occasionally transforms into a concert venue.

Only a select few artists have been able to fill the massive MCG, and one of them is Ed Sheeran. During his visit to Melbourne in March for his “The Mathematics Tour,” Sheeran set records by attracting over 105,000 attendees to his first concert and a staggering 109,500 fans to his second show. The combined attendance of almost 215,000 people set a national record at the time.

Now, Taylor Swift has her sights set on surpassing Sheeran’s record-breaking achievement. With consecutive shows at the MCG, she has the opportunity to claim the title for herself. It is worth noting that Frontier Touring, the same company that produced Sheeran’s tour, is also behind Swift’s forthcoming trek.

Swift’s upcoming tour is a departure from her previous visits to Australia, where she performed in multiple cities as part of a long-haul tour. In 2018, her “Reputation Tour,” produced by Live Nation, took her to stadiums in five cities across Australia and New Zealand. This time, she has chosen to focus on Melbourne and Sydney, ensuring that fans in those cities have an unforgettable experience.

Known for her chart-topping success, Swift has achieved numerous milestones in the Australian music scene. Taylor Swift made history by achieving three simultaneous No. 1 positions on the ARIA charts: album, single, and national airplay. She also holds the record for the most top 10 debuts on the ARIA Singles Chart, with nine out of the top 10 songs. Her latest album, “Midnights,” marked her 10th No. 1 album in Australia, breaking streaming records and achieving the largest vinyl sales debut in history.

Joining Swift on her Australian tour as a special guest artist is American singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter. Fans can look forward to an unforgettable night of live music and captivating performances from these talented artists.
