British rapper Slowthai, known for his Grammy-nominated music and chart-topping album in the UK, has recently faced serious charges. He appeared via video before the Oxfordshire magistrate’s court on Tuesday, where he was charged with two counts of rape.

The charges against Slowthai, whose real name is Tyron Frampton, involve the alleged oral and vaginal penetration of a woman in Oxford in September 2021. The rapper, aged 28, maintains his innocence and took to social media to deny the allegations.

In a statement shared on Tuesday, Slowthai categorically denied the charges, expressing confidence that his name would be cleared. He requested that his supporters refrain from commenting on the situation and asked for privacy for his family during this challenging time. Slowthai’s legal representative confirmed his identity, revealing his birth name, birth date, and an address in Northampton.

Prosecution lawyer Adam Yar Khan informed the court that the rape charges were considered indictable offenses and required the case to be heard in crown court. In England, magistrates’ courts typically handle summary offenses, while crown courts deal with more serious criminal cases such as murder and rape. All criminal cases start in magistrates’ court and are then passed to crown court, where a jury determines the verdict.
